Showcasing innovative ways to have your Orange-fleshed sweetpotato

The International Potato Center (CIP) hosted a sweetpotato awareness week at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya from 13 – 17 February 2017. The aim was to raise awareness among ILRI staff and other campus users on the benefits of the Vitamin A rich Orange-Fleshed Sweetpotato (OFSP) while showcasing diversity in its preparation and consumption.

In collaboration with Petma Restaurant Limited, a variety of meals—starters, main courses and salads—were prepared using OFSP for five consecutive days. On Friday, 17 February, CIP hosted a special morning coffee session for campus users in honor of the 2016 World Food Prize laureates who were in attendance. Drs. Robert Mwanga, Maria Andrade and Jan Low had an opportunity to address the ILRI community for the first time since they received their prize in October 2016. They explained what had changed in their lives since then, and how the prize was contributing to their ongoing efforts to fight hunger, malnutrition and vitamin A deficiency in SSA.
