Since 2012, the International Potato Center (CIP) has run nineteen editions of its Training of Trainers (TOT) course “Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Sweetpotato” in Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mozambique, Nigeria and Tanzania. On July 3, 2017, Ethiopia has, for the first time, joined this select group.

From now on, course material will not only be available in English, French, Kiswahili and Portuguese, but also in Amharic. The twentieth edition of the course is financed by the European Union through its Better Diets Better Health project. The course is organized by the Hawassa Agricultural Research Center (HARC) in Hawassa and the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college in Sodo in the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region 9SNNPR).

Thirty experts and extension workers from zonal and district level agricultural bureaus and staff members from CIP’s partner People In Need (PIN) have already attended the programme. These will assume a key role in promoting the production, consumption and marketing of nutritious, climate-smart orange-fleshed sweetpotato varieties in the region in the future.
