SPHI Brief 2014: Reaping the benefits from investments in breeding in Mozambique

Breeding has been long recognized for ability to produce crops with desired traits. Sweetpotato is short maturity crop providing reliable yields under a variety of adverse conditions. This project brief outlines a 5 year project conducted in Mozambique to provide solution food and nutrition insecurity. The main approach outlined is through integrated agriculture-marketing-nutrition that developed new technologies and mechanisms for dissemination. Thus supplied at least 200,000 households in 7 provinces of Mozambique with improved, pro-vitamin A rich sweetpotato varieties.
