This banner is on promoting biofortification to combat micronutrient malnutrition in Africa.

Scaling up Biofortified Crops for Food and Nutrition Security:

  1. Micronutrient malnutrition or hidden hunger is characterized by chronic deficiency of essential vitamins and minerals such as vitamin A, iron and zinc.
  2. Promote nutrition-sensitive agriculture through a ‘food basket’ approach to biofortified crops. Examples include vitamin A (yellow) cassava, vitamin A (orange) maize, vitamin A (orange) sweetpotato and high iron beans.
