As scientists when breeding we have to ask ourselves the following questions:

1. What is your key target group?
2. What traits meet their needs?
3. How do you assess the preferences of the target group?
4. At what stage in the breeding cycle do you assess preferences?
5. In your program, which variety best meets current preferences of this key target group?
6. How widely has this variety been adopted?
