This manual contains ‘Everything you ever wanted to know about sweetpotato’. We hope that it will be useful for those involved in training extensionists and NGO staff at different levels, and that they in turn will train farmers in practical ways that help them to build their problem solving and decisionmaking skills so they can continue to learn, question, test and address different opportunities and challenges relevant to their livelihoods. Volume 3 consists of Topic 5: Sweetpotato Seed Systems. It discusses different seed multiplication levels and the roles of the different stakeholders within the system. It also discusses the factors influencing decisions on whether to use a single shot or an ongoing planting material dissemination approach and the level of subsidisation. The topic also covers examples of planting material multiplication and dissemination strategies and methods for selecting, conserving and multiplying clean planting materials.
