PARTICIPATORY BREEDING AND OFFICIAL VARIETY RELEASE

 

This presentation describes breeding via farmer participation and frame work involved aiming to release new variety. The involvement of farmers to selecting genotypes, raising seedlings and monitor field performance is participatory plant breeding (PPB). These steps are averaged to take 7-8 year to develop and release new variety. Briefly some of activities involved include; seedling germination, clonal evaluation, taste tests then PPB trial evaluation.
