The Problem
In Côte d’Ivoire, sweet potato is cultivated in all regions for food and as a source of income. Domestic production is mainly composed of sweet potatoes with white and yellow flesh. The cultivation of Orange Flesh Sweet Potato (OFSP) rich in β-carotene is hampered by the scarcity of varieties with this characteristic. A breeding program has been launched by research and led to preselect 6 orange flesh sweet potato varieties at station based on their yield, health status, ability to cook and taste. To contribute to the fight against food insecurity and vitamin A deficiency, CNRA and HKI have launched, inside Change project, a program to support the promotion of Orange Flesh Sweet Potato (OFSP).
